Antonia Tyz Peeples

Artist Dialogue

YJ Contemporary was recently given the opportunity to get a closer look into the creative practices of Antonia Tyz Peeples:

Why do you do what you do?

ATP: Beyond its visual beauty, I find water evokes feelings of peace and serenity. Painting becomes a form of meditation through which I create my own sanctuary. Choosing to explore water and its visual language through my paintings has been an enlightening gift that I enjoy sharing.

How has your style and practice changed over the years?

ATP: My work has become more focused in subject and smooth surfaced style. I am fascinated by studying the surface and patterns of all natural things; water, plants, rocks, fire, smoke.

Where do you see yourself going from here forward in your artistic explorations?

ATP: In the future, I see myself further exploring my subjects in a larger format and maybe a more minimalistic approach and style

What 5 words would you use to describe your artwork?

ATP: Rhythm, pattern, fluidity, energy and transference.
