Admiring artist Tayo Heuser's work is an absolute must when visiting the YJ Contemporary gallery.  She explores the worlds of color, space, and form through her unique processes using a multitude of mediums.  Delving deeper in Heuser's work with paper specifically, we shine a  spotlight on her organic paper sculptural forms.  Not only are they visibly pleasing in aesthetic nature and design, they also possess exceptional qualities of weightlessness and illusion.  These irregular- shaped sculptures can be over two feet, and appear to be floating on the wall's surface.

Tayo Heuser uses her own organically produced paper in creating her pieces.  The sculptures begin as freshly pulled sheets of paper comprised of dyed and beaten abaca fibers.  Heuser then layers the paper around wax wooden forms using adhesive, eventually building up opaque edges and walls strong enough to stand on their own.  The immense concentration involved in her process develops into a meditative practice, adding a tasteful harmony to her structural forms-- existing as objects of both delicacy and strength.  Heuser's geometric- based sculptures capture and reveal dimensions of pigmentation, light, and volume as, "Color and space are rooted in her way of seeing the world, weighing heavily in the next steps moving forward.1" YJ Contemporary Fine Art Gallery is currently exhibiting two of Heuser's paper sculptures: "Magenta Bird" (43x17x2") and "Blue Whispers" (66x43x1.5).
