Antonia Tyz Peeples

Biography

Born in 1957 in New Britain, CT, artist Antonia Tyz Peeples has literally and figuratively generated waves in the art world. As the daughter of a painter mother and a photographer father, Antonia was encouraged to pursue the arts at a young age. From as early as ten years old, she began taking painting lessons from local Connecticut artists. Throughout her young adulthood, Peeples continued her studies at Eastern Connecticut State University and Silvermine Guild of Art (CT).

For the past ten-plus years, Peeples has been painting realistic ‘oceanscape’ waves and a variety of water surfaces. She is captivated by water’s ability to remain a source of inspiration time and time again. An endless play between light and shadow along the surface of water emphasizes the intricacies and unique designs that are incorporated in Peeples’ works. Antonia Peeples’ pieces radiate diverse emotive properties, from serenity and complexity to force and flexibility to fervency and patience. They are pieces that captivate viewers, encouraging one’s eye to move just as the water does, in constant flux.

Artist Statement

Water is a never-ending source of inspiration for me.

Each day, I study one painting after another, seeking an ever-deepening understanding of its essence. The more I observe, the more I seem to discover.

The ocean, in particular, has captured my imagination. Its surface designs, deep waters, and shore breaks offer infinite beauty and complexity.

The ocean is ever-changing and omnipresent, a universal part of our existence. Sitting by its shores gives one a certain feeling of connectedness—the endless rhythm, power, and mystery of the sea course through our veins.

Choosing to explore water and its components through my paintings has been an enlightening and uplifting gift that I enjoy sharing. Thank you for taking the journey with me.

“Beyond its visual beauty, I find water evokes feelings of peace and serenity. Painting becomes a form of meditation through which I create my own sanctuary. Choosing to explore water and its visual language through my paintings has been an enlightening gift that I enjoy sharing. Thank you for taking the journey with me.”
